Founder of The Green Carpet Challenge, Livia Firth celebrates her appointment as a Leader of Change 2012, presented by the Foundation for Social Change in conjunction with the UN Office for Partnerships. The honor recognises her continued work and leadership in reforming the fashion industry, putting supply chain ethics centre stage.

“Receiving this award is a great honour and a wonderful recognition of everything the Green Carpet Challenge has achieved so far” says Livia Firth. “The Foundation for Social Change sits perfectly with GCC values. We believe passionately in putting environmental and social justice on a platform with world class design and production.”

To mark the occasion, the GCC brings together key players across the fashion industry including American Vogue, Vogue Italia, L’Oreal, Gap, Gucci, Chopard, NewLife and C.L.A.S.S in a roundtable discussion held in New York. This is the first of many high level GCC roundtable discussions around the world that will bring together influential figures across fashion production, design and retail. ‘To get such amazing names from the most influential magazine editors to major brands discussing the real issues ethical fashion represents gives us real momentum, says Livia Firth. ‘This is the first in a number of major GCC initiatives and partnerships to be announced over the next few months.’

Livia Firth’s appointment as a UN Leader of Change 2012 marks a new chapter for her journey and work with the Green Carpet Challenge, working with fashion businesses to facilitate ethical practices for every level of the supply chain; from sourcing the raw materials through to the consumers purchasing the product. The GCC is an initiative of Eco-Age, ethical consultancy experts in re-imagining the entire supply chain.

The Green Carpet Challenge

The Green Carpet Challenge is a dynamic project founded by Livia Firth and British journalist Lucy Siegle which pairs glamour and ethics to raise the profile of sustainable style at the world’s most high profile red carpet events and works deep in the supply chain to help the fashion industry reform. The GCC has collaborated with some of the worlds most recognized and respected design luminaries. The GCC fabric library launched in 2012 bringing eco fabrics and processes into the public consciousness. Green Cut, a creative project between the GCC and sponsor American Express paired leading designers with iconic British films, producing a collection. The unique process was documented in a short film also entitled Green Cut.

GCC and Giusy Bettoni from C.L.A.S.S. have joined forces and created the first “Green Carpet Challenge Fabric Library” to work with the GCC fashion designers worldwide. Each design house works with the GCC team to a set of sustainable fashion criteria.
