Smart Creation Masterclass: for the first time fashion and industry debate responsible innovation

For 3 days the major players that supply materials and services to the global fashion industry met in Paris at the Première Vision show, a must-attend appointment to present and discover the latest innovations from the whole textile industry. C.L.A.S.S. has been there to witness a real change seen in the new and amazing collections shown by enlightened partner companies and big brands who choose to play better by the new responsible innovation rules.

C.L.A.S.S. has been sharing this vision since 2007, along with the brands that leads the market with extraordinary performing and beautiful fabrics, while innovating with consciousness. This year, for the first time, fashion and industry are talking about responsible innovation as the great new added-value to pursue.

The need for a shift in large scale industrial processes is now getting real. The most authorithative european fashion councils are embracing it: fashion and industry is now talking for the first time about sustainability standards.

Sustainable innovation and development are the main topic that has been discussed during the Smart Conversation Masterclass, hosted by Première Vision on September 15th, instigated and appointed by Giusy Bettoni, founding president of C.L.A.S.S., Carlo Capasa the president of the Camera Nazionale della Moda, Caroline Rush, Chief Executive of the British Fashion Council, and Chantal Malingrey, Director of Marketing and Development at Première Vision.

The Première Vision masterclass, attended by some 16o persons, involved experts and industry professionals, designers, brands, fashion associations and journalists.

During the show, ‘Smart Creation Première Vision’ was officially launched as the new platform, two years in the making, and created to provide the textile and fashion market with new values, values that meet the new consumer’s needs.

“These values are totally consumer-driven. They are more and more aware of the concerns and impact of their new and highly attuned responsible demands. This has actively fueled a steady increase in the desire for eco-friendly products, as well as a more respectful attitude towards the social conditions of workers who manufacture and produce these consumer goods, which of course includes fashion.” addressed Chantal Malingrey.

“Today, we are talking about the future. Because sustainable development is the future …”stated Carlo Capasa.

“Fashion is an ecosystem that must strengthen the synergy between all sectors, from yarn to finished product, with transparency and responsibility.” said Caroline Rush.

A strong message coming from two of the most authoritative associations that represent the highest cultural values of Italian and British Fashion.

The point is not only the sustainability aspects of the production process in the fashion industry: the real debate is about a big change that would turn the table in the market. The demand for eco-friendly products is constantly increasing, as long as the manufacturers social conditions and the respect of the environment are also considered during the process.

To address these needs, brands are showing that they are ready to take action in the right direction. During Première Vision, nearly 150 exhibitors answered a survey about sustainable development in the fashion industry, as part of this new Première Vision Smart Creation program. The results demonstrated a new positive attitude was emerging from companies now about a commitment to sustainable production methods and responsible sourcing.

The debate has just started. Everyone is involved and welcome to join the conversation.
