Net-a-porter is the world exclusive retailer of the capsule collection available online from September 17, 2013 and will donate 20% of proceeds to (RED)™ which finances Global Fund grants in Africa, with a focus on eliminating mother-to-child transmission of HIV. The collection will be unveiled during London Fashion Week at an event hosted by Natalie Massenet, Anna Wintour, Livia Firth and the Earl and Countess of Mornington. The event will be held to support the life-saving work of the Global Fund through a creative partnership with the GCC® and (RED)™. Livia Firth says, “We decided early on that the Green Carpet Challenge would work on two levels: on the world’s red carpets to get our favourite A-listers wearing sustainable style in front of the flash bulbs and then deep in the supply chain with real producers all over the world making systemic change. For the first time this collection puts the two together in a wonderful symbiotic relationship and shows the power of NET-A-PORTER as a fashion industry game changer when it embraces sustainable style and I look forward to working with them forever and ever.”

“British fashion has huge power and resonance world-wide and I am thrilled that (RED) and Livia Firth have seen in our great British designers, the opportunity to amplify their messages and raise funds for the amazing work that they do,” states Natalie Massenet, Founder and Executive Chairman of NET-A-PORTER.COM. “British fashion is at the top of its game right now and it’s a real honour that the Global Fund has chosen to host its event in London during London Fashion Week. We at NET-A-PORTER.COM are delighted to be able to take a small part in making a big difference.”

“I am thrilled to be able to be a part of this GCC® project,” states Victoria Beckham. “The search for ethically sourced fabrics is something myself and my team have been actively looking at and developing and so seeing the options and possibilities through Livia and the GCC has been inspiring.” Erdem says, “The Green Carpet Challenge has been an interesting project to be a part of. I like knowing that many of the mills I’ve worked with for years already supply sustainable fabrics and I’ve also been introduced to new and interesting materials in this vein. It’s important to be aware of sustainability and Livia Firth, through this Green Carpet Challenge has done such an amazing job of bringing further attention to the subject of sustainability within luxury fashion.”

Christopher Kane says, “I’m happy to be involved with Livia and the GCC. It’s a worthwhile cause to educate and improve awareness of ethical fashion. The project has been a challenge but worth it. I’ve learnt so much about the complexities of sustainability. I hope the dresses prove that ethical fashion is achievable whilst being equally glamorous at the same time”.

Roland Mouret for GCC collection on Net-a-Porter

Roland Mouret says, “The GCC is such an amazing project to be a part of as it fuels forward thinking through design. Designers are always looking a season or two ahead, however this project has enabled me to focus years into the future. It’s created a bigger picture and has brought up a bigger issue within the fashion industry that I believe we all need to confront.”

Christopher Bailey says, “Our starting point was, very simply, to create something with real integrity. We didn’t set out to create ‘green’ dresses, but rather to produce something responsibly that explores the whole idea of sustainability. The result is two dresses that play with fabric and construction to reflect a sense of fragility but also the strength and positivity of what we hope will be a bright future.”
