Aimed at those studying fashion design, merchandising, product development, production, textiles, brand management and marketing.
This student workshop specializes in design synergy, innovative textile research and strategic communication needed to add brand value. Centered in Milan at CLASS Headquarters, the wide variety of learning activities include onsite lectures to a spinner and weaver, and interactive workshops that enable C.L.A.S.S. Education to introduce participants to a new generation of textile technologies and innovations that can provide improvements to the supply chain.
This is a great opportunity to learn about the latest innovations in Eco-smart materials and technologies that provide significant reductions in CO2, water and energy. Participants engage in discussions regarding sustainability and their role as emerging fashion professionals in future fashion systems.
DAY ONE: SUPPLY CHAIN ASSESSMENT
This workshop examines the current apparel and textile supply chain from fiber production through finished garment. Participants gain a deeper understanding of di?erent approaches used to improve the supply chain.
DAY TWO: BIELLA MILL/SPINNER VISIT
Participants will be taken by private motor coach to Biella an important textile- processing city.
Organic Wool Production – Participants will be given a guided tour of an organic wool mill to understand the steps in organic wool production. They learn first- hand how eco-leaders are improving the supply chain.
“Smart” Cotton Production
In this second mill visit participants discover a new player in eco-smart textiles within the cotton market that sets a new quality standard for smart. Participants learn about a new smarter production cycle.
DAY THREE: KEY ISSUES IMPACTING FASHION
An excellent opportunity to learn about the current issues that make the lifecycle of textiles and clothing unsustainable. Participants are asked to assess their brand and determine which issues can be confronted by design.
Water Misappropriation, Chemicals, Energy, Asset Stripping, Waste and Transport
DAY FOUR: TORINO MILL/SPINNER VISIT
During this visit participants will explore a system of recycled polyester filament yarn coming 100% from postconsumer bottles sourced. This certified mechanical process for production of recycled yarn, rather than a chemical method for producing yarn that is 100% Italian made. This unique process cuts down on toxins previously generated from the conventional system.
DAY FIVE: COMMUNICATION BRAND STRATEGY
Sustainability is no longer a new conversation but a new generation of eco- smart textiles is.
Researching the depth and breadth of eco-textiles and the amount of information or misinformation can become overwhelming and confusing. C.L.A.S.S. Education brings together participants and experts to facilitate an open discussion regarding the role of the fashion decision maker, communication and future fashion systems.
