C.L.A.S.S. at the Copenhagen Fashion Summit 2014

On April 24th took place the third edition of the Copenhagen Fashion Summit 2014, the world’s largest and most important event on sustainable fashion, C.L.A.S.S. is partner of the initiative.

Under the patronage of Her Royal Highness, Princess Mary of Denmark, the event gathers 1,000+ key industry stakeholders, politicians and decision makers to discuss innovative solutions to critical environmental, social and ethical challenges.

C.L.A.S.S. shared with the guests of the event the history of the partners it represents, “excellent” companies that create unique and exclusive products thanks to the use of innovative technologies.

C.L.A.S.S. IN THE DEBATE ON INNOVATIVE MATERIALS AT COPENHAGEN FASHION SUMMIT

The day of the Summit provided a rich programme of initiatives, including an exhibition dedicated to the excellence of the materials promoted and organised by C.L.A.S.S.

The Copenhagen Fashion Summit 2014 opened with a series of speeches that provided diverse visions and solutions on the theme “Tactics for sustainable strategies and integration of design”. Among the speakers present were: Livia Firth (Creative Director Eco Age Ltd and Founder of the Green Carpet Challenge), Marco Bizzarri (President and CEO Bottega Veneta) and Marie-Claire Daveu (Chief Sustainability Officer and Head of International Institutional Affairs Kering).

A “debate on innovative materials” was moderated by Vanessa Friedman (Fashion Director and Chief Fashion Critic, The New York Times); the debate also saw the participation of Chantal Malingrey-Perrin (Marketing Director, Premie?re Vision), Marco Lucietti (Global Marketing Director, ISKO™), Catarina Midby (Head of Sustainable Fashion, H&M) and Giusy Bettoni (CEO of C.L.A.S.S.). During the debate, issues related to developments in the textile industry at international level was addressed and there was a discussion on the role of the integration of “responsibility” in the creative and technological processes of fashion collections.

C.L.A.S.S. AND THE DESIGN CHALLENGE

As the culmination of the Copenhagen Fashion Summit conference day, ten of the major brands of Nordic fashion showcased sustainable fashion design at a runway show taking place outside the Opera House. In months leading up to the runway show, the Nordic designers have all been engaged in a “Design Challenge” in which they have chosen and interpreted textiles selected from the ecolibrary of C.L.A.S.S. for their sustainable styles to be presented during Copenhagen Fashion Summit.

Barbara I Gongini, David Andersen, Designers Remix, Filippa K, Guðrun & Guðrun, Ivana Helsinki, JÖR by Guðmundur Jörundsson, Leila Hafzi, Marimekko and Nina Skarra demonstrated that “sustainable” fashion can also be refined and attractive. Their creations were presented before a jury of fashion professionals: Peter Copping (Artistic Director of Nina Ricci), Kai Margrander (Fashion Director of Harper’s Bazaar Germany), Julie Gilhart (Fashion Consultant), Margareta van den Bosch (Creative Advisor of H&M), Catarina Midby (Head of Sustainable Fashion of H&M) and Giusy Bettoni (CEO of C.L.A.S.S.).

Denim was the protagonist of another challenge, Denim Challenge. ISKO, division of Sanko Group and world specialist in denim, has involved five Nordic brands (A Question Of, Marimekko, Barbara I Gongini, Wackerhaus and Ivana Helsinki) that, with the creative and production supervision of Creative Room, ISKO’s centre for design research, will showcase unique denim styles at the sustainable runway show. To judge them will be a jury of specialists in the sector: Giusy Bettoni (CEO of C.L.A.S.S.), Kutay Saritosun (Senior Marketing Executive, ISKO) and Peter Ingwersen (Designer, Strategic Consultant and Founder of the fashion label Noir). The objective of the Denim Challenge is to stimulate the Industry and consumers regarding the infinite uses of this fabric and encourage a use of it that is ever more responsible.

FROM C.L.A.S.S. TO COPENHAGEN: THE FASCINATING EVOLUTION OF THE WORLD OF TEXTILES

The textiles of the partners of C.L.A.S.S. are the interpreters of a responsible lifestyle, in which tradition and innovation are interwoven with respect of more creative expressive forms. They were the protagonists of an exclusive exhibition space at the Copenhagen Fashion Summit. On display, textiles from Centro Seta, E.Boselli, Euromaglia, Fox Fibre, Green Fibers, Gruppocinque, Lanfranchi, Lanificio Stelloni Andrea, Lanificio Zignone, Lanificio Fiaschi Mario, E.volution™ by Miroglio Textile, Monocel®, mYak, Newlife™ by Sinterama, Nuova Fratelli Boretti, Thermore®.

C.L.A.S.S. was in fact promoter of an exhibition, which included fabrics that are unique to their genre in addition to some outfits of the Spring Summer 2014 Weekend Max Mara collection that are made of special high-tech fabric in Newlife™. A unique fabric, complete and certified as having threads that are entirely made in Italy, fully traceable and obtained from 100% post-consumer plastic bottles.
